What’s the buzz about Just-B?

Why mindfulness?

Mindfulness is living life with awareness and alertness. Being mindful helps you to be anchored in the present moment and stay calm and responsive even at a time of inner turmoil. Mindful people are focused, positive and self-aware. Says Billie Jean King, winner of 39 Grand Slam Tennis titles, “I think self-awareness is probably the most important thing towards being a champion.”

In an increasingly fast-paced and competitive world, learning mindfulness at an early age gives an added advantage. Once learnt, this skill stays with you for life. Leaders in the world of business, sports and the arts use mindfulness to manage stress and anxiety. Bill Ford, Executive Chairman, Ford Motors believes that the practice of mindfulness took him through the darkest days during the bankruptcy of Ford Motors.

How is it relevant to a teenager, pre-teen or a young child?

Teenagers, pre-teens and increasingly young children too, face a lot of stress in their day-to-day lives. They have to cope with academic and social pressures, while finding their own path and building their own value systems. When teenagers and pre-teens go through physical, mental and emotional changes from time to time, mindfulness can bring them much-needed inner stability. It helps them to work with greater concentration and attention to detail even as it brings more maturity to their relationships. They learn to set goals and priorities, and to manage their time well. Mindfulness also helps them go through their daily challenges in a calmer, more confident and productive manner. In younger children, mindfulness plants the seeds for a happier, calmer life, helping them to manage their emotions and their relationships. It shifts their focus within, which brings greater self awareness and self-confidence.
